Rocket Launching Technology Challenge

Introduction

The Rocket Launching Technology Challenge (PTPR) is an annual water rocket science education program organized by the National Space Agency (ANGKASA) in collaboration with the Division of Co-curriculum and Arts, the Ministry of Education and the University of Malaya. The water rocket competition has entered its 11th year since it was first introduced as a pilot project in 2003. It is an advanced science education program for supporting conventional secondary school curriculum in the country.

In this competition, students are required to create a perfect water rocket model using 1.5 liter bottle of carbonated drinks in a very creative and innovative style to reduce frictional forces. Subsequently, the water rocket model will be launched into the sky via a water rocket launcher, with perfect combination of air and water pressure, to achieve several missions. Indeed there are many scientific concepts and applications that need to be understood and adapted by students before building and launching the water rocket.

The PTPR2013 is coming back this year with high hopes and enthusiasm that this program, in line with ANGKASA efforts, will create an onset of interest, creative and innovative mindset among young people in exploring space science.

Objectives

To instill interest, enhance understanding, skills and community knowledge in the field of science and space technology;
To cultivate creative and innovative mindset in students;
To provide platform for applying learnt theory and concept by means of technical activity to help enhance students understanding; and
To make space science challenging yet fun.

Application Deadline

Application form must be filled in by the qualified team only and submited to organizer not later than August 2, 2013 (Friday) for the purpose of participation and lodging facilities arrangement. Application form can be downloaded here.
